How I made my theme possible was changing and contrasting the glazes. I used dunking, dripping mixing different colors. When I threw my projects I would consciously think about how the shape would affect the glaze and how it runs. Once it comes out of the kiln I think about how the shape and the color of the clay. I think about many different factors that go into the glaze I use. I also think of the color scheme. I use either all cool or warm colors. I use this for all of my projects yet they all turn out very different. I chose this theme because before I had not really tried my glazing. I know that it is a big factor in how your project turns out. This semester I have improved a lot. One of my goals was to throw a big bowl and I did it. The more I threw and improved the more I experimented with glazing. I wanted to focus on glazing and improving that aspect of my school.
Specifically some areas of huge improvement have been my bowls. I used to only be able to make cylinders. In my gallery there is a couple pictures of big bowls I have made. This really shows that I have improved on the shape and how to shape my projects. I really am a lot more proud of myself this semester. My lidded project for example is a different shape. It is a very pretty vase. I can make plates like the awesome marbled projects I made in my gallery. Also I can make tall projects. In my gallery there is a project that is a tall cylinder with flowers that show how tall it really is. My diversity in the shaping has really improved throughout my projects. Another huge aspect that has improved is my footing. They used to be very bulky and ugly and misshapen at the bottom. This semester I have learned the art of footing. The bottoms of my bowls are now the right shape and everything has improved immensely. Getting over this hump and now being able to be diverse has allowed me to really try with different glazes and be confident with my projects.
Throughout the two semesters now three that I have gone through. I have improved immensely. I really enjoy to throw now and know that if anyone tries hard enough you can achieve your goals. This semester my family has been very proud of my achievements and I'm happy with myself!
