I have been in ceramics for 3 semesters now, 1 semester of beginning and 2 of advanced. Over these three semesters I have improved immensely. Especially in this last year I have gotten better. Some things I have been trying to improve on is my footing. Also my glazing I have been trying to branch out more in. The theme this year is surface design to enhance the project.
How I made my theme possible was changing and contrasting the glazes. I used dunking, dripping mixing different colors. When I threw my projects I would conciously think about how the shape would affect the glaze and how it runs. Once it comes out of the kiln I think about how the shape and the color of the clay. I think about many different factors that go into the glaze I use. I also think of the color scheme. I use either all cool or warm colors. I use this for all of my projects yet they all turn out very different.
I chose this theme because before I had not really tried my glazing. I know that it is a big factor in how your project turns out. This semester I have improved a lot. One of my goals was to throw a big bowl and I did it. The more I threw and improved the more I experimented with glazing. I wanted to focus on glazing and improving that aspect of my school.
Throughout the two semesters now three that I have gone through. I have improved immensely. I really enjoy to throw now and know that if anyone tries hard enough you can achieve your goals. This semester my family has been very proud of my achievements and I'm happy with myself!
